Gujarat Jain Jatra – 14 Nights – 15 Days

Itinerary

  • Day 01: Ahmedabad

    Arrive in Ahmedabad. You will be transferred to your hotel. Post Lunch proceeds to visit Hutheesingh Jain Temple, one of the most magnificent Jain temples of Gujarat made most artistically out of white marble. The temple was constructed in 1848 AD and was named after a wealthy merchant Seth Hutheesingh. The temple was built in honour of the revered Dharmanath; the 15th Tirthankara of the Jains and it took nearly 10 Lakhs to construct this extravagantly adorned Jain temple. Later continue to visit Koba Jain Temple - the Koba Jain Tirth was set up in memory of His Holiness Acharya Shri Kailas Sagar Suriji Maharaj Saheb, with his blessing Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra was established here on December 26, 1980. This is an excellent and matchless centre of propitiation of dharma and attainment of spiritual knowledge, activities of religion, spiritual knowledge, activities of religion, and dissemination of religion. Here is an immensely splendid temple of Mahavir Swami. It has a cellar and eleven different idols. It aroused the joy of religion. Looking beautiful with high steps and their pinnacles, this delightful temple is worth visiting. The idols of Manibhadravir Padmavati Devi and Bhagawan Adishwar is there in the cellar. The very rare crystalline of Bhagawan Parshvnath is also here. O/N Ahmedabad.

  • Day 02: Ahmedabad – Mahudi

    Early breakfast and drive to the North of Gujarat to visit the most sacred Jain pilgrimage of Mahudi. In ancient times, the place was known as Madhumati. The idols and artistic remains recovered from the ground show that the history of this place is nearly 2000 years old, based on the inscriptions in Brahmi script. Acharyadev Buddhi Sagarsurisvarji was inspired by a dream to install the idol of Ghantakarn Mahavir Dev in 1923 A.D. This idol is considered to have miraculous powers. Thousands of Jain devotees, as well as devotees from other backgrounds, come to receive blessings from this idol. Even today his idol carries his weapons a bow and arrow. It is always said that in his previous birth he was very fond of Sukhadi, and so there is a tradition of all visitors offering Sukhadi to him during the prayer. However, it is believed that the Sukhadi should be consumed or donated before leaving the premises, otherwise it might bring bad luck. Next to this shrine is a bell at a height of about 30 feet and devotees climb up to ring it and ask for the fulfilment of a wish. In this vicinity, there is another larger temple with a 22-inch marble idol of Bhagawan Padma Prabhu sitting in padmasana (lotus) posture, installed by Acharyadev. It is customary to take a bhoomti (circumambulation) around the 24 shrines of the Tirthankara here. Later you will be visiting Vadnagar it also has unearthed remains of a Buddhist monastery that belongs to the 7th century AD. Drive ahead to visit Taranga Jain Temples – Which is home to caves that were used by Buddhist monks thousands of years ago. It has Buddhist sculptures carved in stone that resemble the Bodhi Vriksha or Kalpavriksha and other Buddhist motifs. Taranga Hills harbour connections with Buddhism. The main idols enshrined in the Taranmata and Dharanmata temples are of Buddhist goddess Tara. Broken terracotta images of Buddha, four carved images of Dhyani Buddha on a stone plate, stone and brick walls inside rock shelters, etc. have been discovered from here. Drive to Balaram – Stay at Balaram Palace.

  • Day 03: Balaram – Ahmaedabad

    Post early breakfast drive to extreme North of Gujarat to visit the Kumbhariyaji Jain Temples - Kumbharia is a village of historical, archaeological and religious importance with cultural heritage. It is notable for five medieval Jain temples, built between 1062 and 1231, similar in design and type to the Jain Maru-Gurjara architecture style. The Hindu Shiva Kumbheshwar Mahadev Temple is of a similar date and style. Continue to Shamlaji – A Buddhist Stupa known as Devni-Mori of 3 century AD and Jain Temples are located nearby. Lots of temples in ruins, ancient brickwork, and scattered idols found at Shamlaji even today showcase that since ancient times it has been a famous pilgrimage on the border of Gujarat and Rajasthan. From ancient times, Shamlaji was a centre for culture. Good relics of Shaiva Vaishnav and Buddha religions have been found there. Return to Ahmedabad. Day free for shopping in Ahmedabad. Dinner at Gordhan Thal or Agashiye or Toran at Ashram Road. Stay in Ahmedabad.

  • Day 04: Ahmedabad – Palitana

    Breakfast at the hotel and proceed to Palitana en route you will be visiting Lothal {Closed every Friday} to see the site museum and archaeological site offering an insight into the town planning of the Indus Valley Civilization. Proceed to Palitana. Stay at Vijay Vilas heritage hotel at Adpur village of Palitana.

  • Day 05: Palitana

    Ascend the Palitana temples of Jainism which are located on Shatrunjaya hill. The city of the same name, known previously as Padliptapur, has been dubbed "The City of Temples". Shatrunjaya means a "place of victory against inner enemies" or "which conquers inner enemies". This site on Shatrunjaya hill is considered sacred by Svetambara Jains. It is said that 23 of 24 Jain Tirthankara, except Neminath, sanctified the hill by their visits. There are approximately 863 marble-carved temples on the hills spread mostly in nine clusters, some being vast temple complexes, while most small in size. The main temple is dedicated to Rishabhanath, the first Tirthankar; it is the holiest shrine for the Svetambara Murtipujaka sect. The main temple is reached by stepping up 3500 steps. Along with Shikharji in the state of Jharkhand, the two sites are considered the holiest of all pilgrimage places by the Jain community. It is believed that a visit to this group of temples is essential as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to achieve nirvana or salvation. Of note, Digambar Jains have only one temple here on the hills.

  • Day 06: Palitana – Gondal

    Post breakfast at Palitana, drive to Gondal. The 11-gun salute princely state of Gondal spanned an area of about 1000 sq. miles comprising four towns and more than 175 villages. The Orchard Palace was built as an annexe of the Huzoor Palace, the family residence, in the late-19th century to host personal guests of the Maharajas. Converted into a seven-room heritage hotel, it is appointed with the 1930s and ‘40s art deco furniture, antiques, and handicrafts. Later see the collection includes a pre-1910 New Engine that belonged to Maharaja Bhagwat Sinhji which is a real beauty with its superbly crafted gas-operated lamp, curved glass windscreen, and woodwork interiors of the coach. The Delage D8, Daimler, and the grand 1935 Mercedes seven-seat saloon are examples of supercharged European cars of the 1920s and '30s known for their superbly crafted bodywork and high performance. Stylish American cars in the collection include the 1935 Packard two-door convertible coupe, the 1930s Buick convertible and the 1935 Ford convertible. Imposing American cars of the 1940s and '50s include 1941 Cadillac saloon, a 1947 Cadillac convertible, a 1947 Buick convertible, 1947 Oldsmobile, the 1940s Studebaker convertible, the 1947 Lincoln V12, and the 1950s Cadillac Eldorado limousine. The Gondal collection also has post-WW2 jeeps, station wagons, and pick-ups that have seen many a Shikar in the 1940s and '50s. The high-performance European cars of the late-1950s include the 1958 Mercedes 300SL two-seat roadster, the 1959 Jaguar XK150, and other cars that Maharaja Jyotendra Sinhji and Maharaj Kumar Ghanadityasinhji raced to wins at many circuits. Also in the collection are muscle cars like the 1960s Chevrolet Camaro and Surtees Formula 5000. Recent additions to the collection include the 1992 Corvette ZR1, the 1997 Chevrolet Camaro, the 1997 Buick Riviera, and a Dodge. Stay at the Riverside Palace/Orchard Palace heritage hotel.

  • Day 07: Gondal – Junagadh

    After breakfast drive to Junagadh en-route visiting the 4th-century Buddhist caves of Khambalida. Continue to Junagadh. Today see the ancient Uparkot Fort, splendid Gothic palaces of the Nawabs and the flamboyant 19th-century mausoleum complex. Stay in Junagadh.

  • Day 08: Girnar

    Girnar was anciently called Raivata or Ujjayanta, sacred amongst the Jains to Neminath, the 22nd Tirthankar, and a place of pilgrimage before 250 BCE. Today climb Mount Girnar with the help of Potters {Doli}. 3800 steps, at an altitude of 2370 ft above Junagadh, still some 600 ft below the first summit of Girnar, there are Jain temples with marvellous carvings in marble. Their temples are sacred to the Digambar and the Svetambara branches of Jainism. According to Jain religious beliefs, Neminath, the 22nd Tirthankara Neminath became an ascetic after he saw the slaughter of animals for a feast at his wedding. He renounced all worldly pleasures and came to Mount Girnar to attain salvation. He attained omniscience and Moksha (died) on Mount Girnar. His bride-to-be Rajulmati also renounced and became a nun. Return to the hotel. Evening you can visit the local market of Junagadh City where you can buy famous Bandhini Fabrics used in Indian Dress Materials, You can also buy some lovely Bandhini Sarees. Dinner and overnight at Hotel. O/N Junagadh.

  • Day 09: Junagadh – Bhuj

    Drive to Bhuj - your first stop will be at Malaya for fresh n up. Tea Break at Malaya and continue to Kutch - This is a panoramic drive to salt pans and windmills. You may also see some migratory birds at salt pans. Today you will be visiting Shree Katariya Ji Mahatirth located at Vallabpur in Bachau District. The ancient Jain pilgrimage of more than 5 years was created by the Shri Kataria Sangha in the Mughal era with a huge base. And the reputation of the statue of the supreme pilgrimage Shri Mahavir Swamy as the originator was Akbar Badshah. Shri Hirusurishwarji Powered by Vijayasena Suriji. Stay at Katariya Ji. O/N Bhuj.

  • Day 10: Bhuj – Tera

    Today proceed to Parshwa Vallabh Indradham near Nakhatarana. Later visit The Jain Derasar of Tera, The temple is dedicated to Lord Parsvanatha, the 23rd Jain Tirthankara. According to history, in 1915, the Lord Parsvanatha temple was constructed by Sheth Hirajibhai Dosabhai and Sheth Pasavira Raimal. This temple was reconstructed many times. In 2027, Acharya Shri Gunasagarasurishvarji finally reconstructed this temple. The deity of this temple has great power. The idol of this temple is in the padmasana posture. In this temple, the flags are flying which enhances the beauty of the temple. Many other idols are also installed in this temple. The 110 Jain idols and 74 Siddha chakras are also placed here. Shri Shamalia Parshvanatha Bhagwan is also placed near this temple. This temple has decorated with glasswork. Stay at Tera.

  • Day 11: Tera – Mandvi

    Today after breakfast drive to Sandhan Jain Tirth – Stay here for some time and later proceed to Mandvi.

  • Day 12: Mandvi

    Today visit the most spiritual Jain Pilgrimage of Mandvi 72 Jinalaya which is known for its flawless excellence. It has a temple for 72 Deris of Lord Mahavir. Return to Mandvi. Post lunch today visit Vijay Vilas Palace and Mandvi Town - Mandvi is known for its 400-year-old shipbuilding centre. The local carpenters still make ocean-going Dhows in much the same way that their ancestors had done a century ago. One can go and visit the men at work, shaping the great vessels with hand tools and coaxing the seasoned timber into shape. The carrying capacity of these boats can vary from 250 tons to 1000 tons. The predecessors of these very same ships had roamed the Indian Ocean and made Kutch a maritime power. Handmade models of these Dhows can also be procured from local artisans. Stay in Mandvi.

  • Day 13: Mandvi – Bhadreshwar

    Post early breakfast drive to the Badreshwar Jain Temples. The magnificent, incomparable Jinalaya of this pilgrimage towering 2522 years, captivates the pilgrims. Located in the Mundra Taluka of Kutch district, an ancient village named Badreshwar is situated in the previous town. In this place lies the divine, beautiful, supremely influential Shri Vasai (Badreshwar) Tirth with a magnificent history. His old name was Bhadravati Nagar, which was very rich and is also mentioned in the scriptures. In India, the Bhadkeshwar pilgrimage comes after the eternal great masters like Shri Samatashikharji and Shri Shetrunjay. This pilgrimage is the most ancient and important of the religious places of Kutch. Stay at Badreshwar.

  • Day 14: Bhadreshwar – Little Rann of Kutch – Sankeshwar – Ahmedabad

    Today post very early breakfast proceed to the Little Rann of Kutch to visit Sankheshwar Jain Temples - Shankapur is the name of these Tirthas per the Ancient Scriptures and a famous Jain Tirth (Jain Temple). The 9th Tirthankar Shri Damodar Swami told Ashadi Shrvak that he will be the disciple of the 23rd Tirthankar Bhagwan Parshwanath in the Avasarpinikala (Descending Half of the Wheel of Time), when Ashadi Shrak was depressed and asked questions about Nirvana, Salvation, and Liberation to the 9th Tirthankar. Ashadi Shrvak then fully drowned himself in Praying Lord Parshwanath. The idol of Bhagawan Shri Bhidbhanjan Parshvnath is in a small temple to the right of the main idol, and the idol of Bhagawan Shri Ajitnath is in a small temple to the left of the main idol. The idols of Nagraj Dharanendra, Shri Padmavati Devi, Parshva Yaksha, and Shri Chakreshvari Devi is also in the temple. On the 10th day of the month of Posh, the 10th day of the dark half of the month of Magasar, and during the Diwali days, thousands of pilgrims come to observe a two-day-long fast. Continue to Ahmedabad. Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

  • Day 15. Ahmedabad

    Morning after breakfast, drop at Ahmedabad Railway Station or Airport. Journey ends here.
